Marshaxlokk Fishing Village

Malta is a small island nation and one of the seven islands on the Mediterranean Sea. Malta is situated in the southern part of Europe and is surrounded by different small European nations. Malta lies in South of Sicily, east of Tunisia and Liby is in its North. Malta also became a member of the European Union in the year 2004 and is the smallest European Union country as far as its geographical area and population is concerned. Malta is not as economically developed as other major European countries but it gets major contributions from few industries like cotton, tobacco and shipyards industry. At point of time the shipyard of Malta was used by British Army. Currently the small island nation is struggling a lot to established its economy. A the economy is not so strong, the transport network in Malta us also not so well-developed as in other parts of Europe but still public modes of transport like bus, taxi and boats are available that help immensely in the trading activities of Malta. Besides, Malta has also got an international airport. Marshaxlokk Fishing Village is one of the recently inhabited village of Malta. The village was established in 9th century BC.

But after the invasion of the Ottoman Turks the earlier residents of the village had to retreat to other parts of Malta. This invasion of the Marshaxlokk Fishing Village took place in the year 1565. Later on even Napoleon also attacked the place. This also led to the retreat of the population. The rehabilitation and the resettlement of the place took place just hundred years ago.Marshaxlokk Fishing Village is now considered to be one of the largest fishing ports in Malta.



The Sunday fish market in Marshaxlokk Fishing Village is one of the important tourist attraction of the region. Here you can have a look at the various types of fishing boats, colorful Luzzu boats, fishes and a lot more things.All the boats have Osiris Eye painted in the front to avert evil. A large number of tourists visit this place because of the beautiful weather and the picturesque and breathtaking landscape of the place.

Marshaxlokk Fishing Village also offers lovely food to the tourists who visit this place. The Cafe Paris offers lip smacking snacks. The prawn salad and shrimps available there are one of the best.
