The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is also referred to as ‘The Tower of Pisa’ and is situated just behind the famous cathedral of Pisa, the Italian city. This well known bell tower is the third structure in the city’s Campo dei Miracoli. The construction started in the year 1173. Since its construction, the tower leaned on its southeastern side due to poor foundation. Though the tower leans at an angle of 5.5 degrees yet till date there has not been any mishap. This 14,500 weighing and 56.70 meter high tower stands proudly in the city.

In the year 1987 The Leaning Tower of Pisa was declared as a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also earned the glory of being one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This entire structure was completed in three separate stages in almost 174 years. The first floor is constructed with white marble and commemorates the success of the military troupe of that period. It houses beautiful pillars and classical artifacts. While constructing the third floor, the tower began to lean. In order to avoid the same, the engineers constructed further storey. Doing so did not solve the problem; however the shape of The Leaning Tower of Pisa became curved.

It has always gained people’s attraction and hence great care has been bestowed on it and its restoration. Great engineers, mathematicians and historians have been working since ages to stabilize The Leaning Tower of Pisa and bringing it to a safer state. In the recent time, the tower has undergone a lot of changes; wherein the base of The Leaning Tower of Pisa has been strengthened. The stability of the tower has been guaranteed for the next 300 years. Moreover the corrosion and blackening, due to the global changes are also being attended by the country government to restore its age old beauty. The tourists from all across the globe would enjoy the stunning beauty of this tower for a long time.
