Originally called the Flavian Amphitheatre, The Colosseum is a magnificent amphitheatre of Rome. During the reign of Emperor Vespasian, between 70 and 72 AD the construction of The Colosseum began. However, it was only during the reign of Titus, in the 80 AD that the entire construction was completed. Further renovations and modifications were executed during Emperor Domitian’s rule. In that period this giant structure used to accommodate almost 50,000 spectators and was used special contests and spectacles. As per the reports, the last spectacular game held in The Colosseum was in the 6th Century. Hence forth it was utilized for housing, religious orders, Christian shrine, workshops, fortress, a quarry and other such purposes. |

| It measures around 157 feet high, 189 feet long and 510 feet wide and the base covers as area of about 6 acres.
