	An important commercial destination of Spain, Barcelona has an impelling influence over the European economy as a major Mediterranean port and an important global city. In addition to the spectacular architecture that the city has in its store there is yet a lot of modern sites which enhances the contemporary image of the city. The Barcelona Zoo is one among them that has been built not only to provide wholesome entertainment and outing for locals and tourists but contributes significantly in the preservation of wildlife.

The Barcelona Zoo which germinated in the year 1892 spreads across a sprawling 13 hectares of picturesque garden which is over a decade old. It is situated in the Ciutadella Park and houses over 7,500 individual animals of more than 400 species from all over the world. The zoological garden is indeed a cauldron full of numerous animals, some of which are even on the path of extinction. The animals include: Gorilla, Bornean Orangutans, Grey Mangabey, White Crowned Mangabey, Bottlenose Dolphins, Iberian Wolf, Sumatran Tiger, Sri Lanka Leopard, Snow leopard, Cheetah, Tapir, Grey Herons, Crocodiles, Snakes just to name a few. The collection of avians is no less enviable and is housed in the Donana Bird Center.
