Tunic and Toga : Women’s tunics were longer with full sleeve whereas the men’s tunics were till the knees. During winter Italians wore many tunics on top of one another. Toga was the dress worn by the men; however, the women’s wear was referred as stola. Basically a toga comprised of a long cloth which had to be draped over the entire body, barring one hand. Stola was considered as the national outfit for women in Rome. It was quite similar to Toga. Both were generally worn during traditional occasions or ceremonies. Cloaks: These is another item which you can buy while shopping in Italy. These were basically over garments to save one from the climatic changes. There were varied types of cloaks worn by the local residents of Rome, namely laena, cucullus, paenula and so forth.
Footwear and accessories: Shopping in Italy means that you should have a look at the various shoe shops and should some of the excellent quality of shoes. Generally, the footwear of men and women did not have much difference. Women’s footwear wears largely closed and colorful shoes, whereas men wore shoes till mid-calf in mild colors.
Italians were noted for jewelries and accessories. Colored stones (emeralds, topaz, rubies and so forth), other jewelries and pendants were their favorites.
