The il-Ggantija is one of the oldest freestanding structures in the world and Malta boasts of being a home to it. It dates back to 3500 BC. Hagar Qim, dating back to 3200 and 2500 BC is also a mark of the early establishment of civilization on the island nation.

Maltese has descended from Maghrebi Arabic, with some Italian and Sicilian influence. Although the Constitution of Malta has established Roman Catholicism as the state religion, the nation provides for a freedom of religion here.

Malta is insufficient in producing its food requirement and freshwater supplies. It also lacks domestic energy sources. The economy is largely dependent on foreign trade and revenues from tourism. Malta is replete with tourist destinations and spots. The country's decision to increase its exports of services, like banking and finance has benefited the economy. It is also a member of the European Union. Limestone, a strategic geographic location, and a productive human resource are Malta’s major assets.
