Madeira Airport (FMC), which is also known as Funchal Airport and Santa Catarina Airport, is the main international airport in Funchal, Medeira. The airport was made by Segadaes Tavares. Madeira Airport (FMC) or the Funchal Airport is the main international gateway for the region. It controls the operation of both domestic and international air traffic in Madeira island. Madeira Airport (FMC) is situated at a distance of 16 kilometers in the Northeast of the city of Funchal and has got a single four four level, which has the capacity to handle more than 2.3 million passengers throughout a year. Apart from serving large number of flights operated byall the domestic airlines, Madeira Airport (FMC), plenty of international flights from major cities in UK, France, Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Airlines also link Madeira, Funchal with canary Islands. Recently Madeira Airport (FMC) has got the Outstanding Structures Award for enlargement of its new runway. The award was presented by International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). This award is considered as the Oscar for engineering structures in Portugal.

Though not so big in size as other international airports in the country, Madeira Airport (FMC) has got a healthy infrastructure and provides various services to its passengers that include a bank, a post office, currency exchange center, several ATMs, Netpoint machines, Wi-Fi Internet access in workstations. There are three cafes, two bars, one snack bar, two restaurants inside the terminal of the airport. Plenty of shops are there in side the terminal where handicrafts items and flowers are available, perfumes, local products, sunglasses, children's fashion wear, Madeira embroidery, leather products, travel accessories are also available.
